Description
Who is this course for?
Both novice and experienced riders
Those required to use an ATV in the course of their employment or for leisure
Those who would like their skills to be verified with certification
What are the course objectives?
Comply with all legal requirements with an emphasis on safe practice
Identify the risks associated with using an ATV
Select appropriate PPE
Identify the controls and components
Understand the function of all instruments
Carry out daily checks as indicated in the operator’s manual
Carry out appropriate pre-start checks
Identify and report any faults
Start up and ride over a variety of terrain and ground conditions
Carry out an ‘Emergency Stop’ without locking the wheels
Carry out a failed hill climb
Operate the ATV on appropriate slopes
Identify loading/towing capacities
Secure a suitable load and drive over appropriate terrain
Safely hitch a trailer or trailed implement and manoeuvre through a defined course
Perform ‘after use’ maintenance
Understand legal and practical requirements for travelling on the public road
Instructions
If appropriate, helmet with chinstrap, eye protection & appropriate to circumstances in which ATV will be used eg:
motorcycle helmet to BS6658:1985 or UN ECE reg 22.05
equestrian or specialist ATV helmet to BS EN 1384:1997(eg Logic or Terrain)
Eye protection – visor or goggles
Gloves; Steel toe-capped boots
Appropriate snag-proof weather-proof outer clothing
Packed lunch
